This year I finally did it. When I was advertising Austria, I really wanted to visit the Tourism Barcamp in Kaprun aka Castlecamp, but somehow it never happened. And since I’ve been working more in tourism again recently, it was high time to let myself be seen in the industry again :)
The Castlecamp Kaprun on September 3rd and 4th, 2016
The Barcamp is taking place at Kaprun Castle for the 9th time and offers a lot of expert knowledge, especially in the online area, from the tourism industry.
If you don’t know much about the word Barcamp, here’s an explanation:
A Barcamp is always free. The participants decide for themselves which topics will be discussed and everyone can and should have their say. In contrast to normal conferences, the program at Castlecamp is created “on the fly”, ad hoc. The whole thing works in such a way that topic suggestions can be submitted in advance, but also at the beginning of the conference. The program of the “unconference” is then formed from these suggestions by voting among those present as to which suggestions are the most popular. But in the end, every topic that was suggested will be discussed if at least two people agree :)
The sessions can take place either as a lecture or discussion group in a very relaxed atmosphere and therefore offer many opportunities to exchange ideas with like-minded people.
The following topics have been submitted so far: Link
Of which I find these particularly exciting:
- How much impact will YouTube have on tourism in the next few years?
- Arts, Games and Playfulness – Interactive location-based storytelling. What and how can this be used in tourism in the future?
- We are now doing Hollywood – beautiful video content produced cheaply
- Are bots really useful in tourism?
- Digital assistants - Why Siri, Google Now and Cortana are the future
- OpenData in tourism – Guests need the best information on the platforms and apps they use. Do you still need a website or app for the destination?
But I’m excited to see what else will be added tomorrow. You can also follow what’s going on with the hashtag **#cczk16 **.

If you’ve never been to a Barcamp, go to one as soon as possible. It always pays off and you learn a lot and, as an added bonus, you get to know some nice people from the industry.
Here is a Barcamp list where you can choose something.
