cinemagraph - The new hype about short moving images

The cinemagraph hype is slowly making its way into Austria. If you’re now wondering what a cinemagraph is supposed to be, here’s the answer.

I think “cinemagraph is a product of still photo with minor elements moving on” is almost the most beautiful description.

A photo with small elements / sections that continue to move (i.e. are video elements). The whole thing can be distributed particularly well as a GIF, i.e. actually as an image file. But cinemagraphs also often appear as video files. Cinemagraphs have been around for several years, especially on the tumblr platform, and I think this is where most users became aware of this special form of GIF.

But a cinemagraph only becomes truly tangible when you see a good example, like this:

The art of creating it is to cut the running video loop so that it can run endlessly.

The “pour” and “pour” GIFs can almost be described as classics.

Stock Photo Platforms

The development of cinemagraphs is particularly interesting for hobby and professional photographers and video makers, as all stock photo platforms are slowly jumping on the hype.

Shutterstock already offers a very interesting selection.

APPs

In addition to professionals, everyday users also have the opportunity to create their own cinemagraphs.

The app Flixel for Mac and iOS is still a bit expensive at around €50, but I think the Me Too products won’t be long in coming and will soon appear in the app stores for €10 or €5.

From an advertiser’s point of view, the whole thing will be really interesting when (finally) mobile advertising media appears that beautifully incorporates and uses cinemagraphs, i.e. GIFs.

This reduces streaming costs and would also be easy for the user to digest.

There’s also a nice collection of cinemagraphs here :)

And update (04/13/16) here is also a very nice collection of perfect application examples of cinemagraphs.
